Unanswered: Urgent: using X window installation on AIX

    Hi all

I would like to install sybase on a mahine which does not have X.window support terminal, I have other machine on the same LAN has X.window support terminal, my question is :

I will telnet from X.window terminal to my machine then :

I must set the DISPLAY variable to specific value:

    export $DISPLAY=hostname:0.0

which host should I put in this command my current host or the remote one.

also I think there is other command to start the X.window before you run ./install from the CD-ROM.

Please it is urgent for me, I am waiting your support.

    Thanks in advance

the hostname is the IP of the machine from which you opened the session. That is your local terminal.

Yeah before you run the install binary you need to start the X-window terminal on your local machine.

    Cheers

I needed to do this today. To unload the software from CDROM

    cd /cdrom/cdrom0
    ./install -c

    to build the servers use

    srvbuildres -r servername.rs

servername.rs is a resource file containing all the parameters required to build the ASE. There are resource files for backup server, XP server and monitor server. All work pretty much the same way.

    [QUOTE][i]
    cd /cdrom/cdrom0
    ./install -c
    [/QUOTE/

Unloads the software using a text only interface
