Is there a way of running external apps from server 2000? Possibly using xp_cmdshell???

    re:

    Ive executed the following:

    EXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'c:\pcplus\refiner.exe'

..but it seems to lock up query analyser...can u see an immediate problem with the command above?

I think it may be that refiner.exe is on the c: of my workstation and I beleive xp_cmdshell scans the c: of the server. Any way around this apaprt from copying refiner.exe to the server?

    Thanks!

when you execute the stored proc it will look on the disks of the server. I don't know what you want to achieve, but it's also possible to execute *.bat files. Maybe it's possible to do some work in such a file (perhaps a shared directory?)
