check whether u have the listerner.ora file.
enter command promt and type lsnrctl
then type status, find what is its status,if unknow, try this command in LSNRCTL> start

u can also check the status of the oracle listerner in the services (whether is it started). try connecting .

if still cannot what is the error being generated.

    hai,
It seems ur listener is fine.
THe Oracle not available messages shows that the database is down(I suppose).

Check in services the status of the particuar database( ORACLE<DBNAME>SID) whether is it started or not.try to start it .
    ----------------------------------------***********--------------------------
If the above does not work(if does not start.)

try connecting to the database as the sys user as sysdba in sqlplus /nolog(if in oracle 9i) or svrmgrl (if in oracle 8i).

once connected : select status from v$instance; -- will show u if the database is up or down.

if down issue the "startup" command.

once started, check the v$recovery_files to check if any file is corrupted.
    -------------------------------------*************---------------------------
U can also check the alert log files to see if the database is up or down.

    let me know.
If u have many database don't forget to set the ORACLE_SID.

I don't know much about citrix but, what kind of connectivity is being used by the application.U said u have installed oracle client and can connect ot the database.

check if the Oracle ODBC Driver is precent in the ODBC Driver in admin tools. It should be present once oracle client is installed.make sure whether the application is using Drivers.

U can also try creating a Oracle ODBC Driver and even try connecting to the database from Access. This proves the driver is ok.

    check this out.
