Unanswered: make an autonumber in a query

Hello all. I was wondering how to make an autonumber in a query, or if there was any way to get a unique id to show up with each record in a query that is not stored, but can run each time the query is ran. I can't use the auto number in the table for this query.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    David

    i'd have thought

    INSERT INTO [<Table>]
    Select max([<Key field>])+1
    From [Table]

    followed by an update query

    that uses

    WHERE [<Key field>] = Max([<Key field>])

    would work well enough
