    Unanswered: Encrypt a field in the table.

    Hi all,

    Is there a method that we can encrypt a field of a table.Say,the password feild if we do not want it to be shown.I thiink in SQL Server there is a option to set this as password type,so we can only see **** no matter what we enter (not sure whether in SQL Server or Access).

    Can this be done.It would be great if anyone could share their knowledge.

    Re: Encrypt a field in the table.

    Look at the encrypt_char and decrypt_char functions ..

    Search for encrypt and/or decrypt in the sQL reference

    create table emp (ssn varchar(124) for bit data);
    set encryption password = 'Ben123';

    this will encrypt the field.

    I'll put it this way :

    Encrytion password is a password for the encrypted field ... You will have to set the same encryption password to decrypt the data ...

    Cheers
