    Hello,

What is an easy way to transfer data from a .dbf file into a Sybase ASE 12.5 database ?

    Depending the volumetry.
    1) Data Pipeline using Powerbuilder, MS-Access, etc
    2) export + bcp in

For the DDL, you can easily use PowerDesigner

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply, I forgot one thing: The number of rows is about 8.000.000 rows. :-)
Data pipeline with Powerbuilder works, but is very slow.
It is a job which will take place on a frequent base.

When I make an exportfile, the NULL-values are converted into a space (' '). When I do a BCP-in then this value will be inserted as a space and not as a NULL-value.

    Cheers,
    Johan

The problem seems to be in the export side from SQLBase. Don't you have any tool to extract a correct output ?

    Else

1)be sure that no simple space field exist on SQLBase
    Code:
    select * from SQLBaseTable
    where Filed1=' '
    or Field2 = ' '
    ...
    for any nullable field
    2) bcp-in the file in a worktable on sybase
    3) update the ' ' with the null for each nullable character key
    Code:
    update WorkTableUnderASE
    set Fieldn=null
    where Fieldn=' '
    4) transfer to the correct table

!!! a problem could appear using the numeric values. you can fix that transfering them into varchar in worktable
