Please do not shout at me, if you find the question too basic.
There are three environment variables on my Oracle installation, and I am not a DBA.
ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID.
I understand ORACLE_BASE is the root of the installation, ORACLE_HOME is where the binaries of Oracle are stored, ORACLE_SID is probably the user_id or something.
But I am not sure what is the reason that there two different variables, ORACLE_BASE and ORACLE_HOME. I though see stuff like jre, admin, local etc. but cant comprehend what they really are. For example the jre in my installation says version 1.1.8.
What relation does the jre have with the Oracle, as JRE is a different ball game, and has different installation paths/directories.
Loads of questions, though very basic, but I would appreciate some responses.
