Unanswered: Very slow speeds with MSSQL

I just installed MSSQL on my Windows 2000 DC machine. Its a P3@600 512ram, about 500gb free disk space. I was using the Enterprise Manager and things are running really slow. After i was able to connect to my server it took about 5m30s to create a database. This SQL server is being ran locally on my machine. Is there anything i can do to speed up the proceess?

What size database? If large it could be due to a slow disk. If default then it will be the same size as model.

Did you instll sp3 - if not then do so.
Check to see if any tasks are running and eating up cpu.

This is an entire new database with SP3 installed. Just all the of the default things from install are in it. And no other procoesses running that take up more then 3-5% processor

try a create database command from query analyser.

If that's still slow use the profiler to see what is being executed and the timings.
