    Unanswered: php and Computer name

Firstly, I'm new to using php so be gentle....

I wish to allow users on a network to be able to click on an HTML link which will then open a form allowing them to enter info regarding problems with their computer.

I wish the php to update a mySQL db with the following info:

    Computername, Problem Description

When searching thru previous posts I have found a way to get the client's IP address, but is there a way to get the PC Name, given that php is server side?

If there isn't a way of using php tp do this, can anyone suggest other ways to do this using an HTML based link.

    Thanks in advance.

I suggest using javascript to get the computer name.
There are some code snippets to connect to databases etc on www.oxyscripts.com

    Enjoy

    No luck...

I had a look at the site and the conclusions that were drawn from others that have had the same problem was that it cannot be done.

Think I'll have to settle on making each user enter the computer ID manually.
