Unanswered: DBI connect failed : Access denied for user: 'mysql@localhost'

Im running apache 1.3.27 Linux 7.3 webmin 1.10, when running MySQL normally I cannot connect to localhost with root, mysql, etc with the error
"Login failed : Incorrect administration username or password" no matter if correct pw used or not always same error

    When running /usr/bin/safe_mysqld --skip-grant-tables
and trying to change passwords / privilages using webmin I get the error
"DBI connect failed : Access denied for user: 'mysql@localhost' "

    Anyone got any advice?

    Thanks

Damn... hit tab and enter accidently =)

Anyways, my guess is your running mysql 4... you need to add localhost access... I had the same problem on one of our production servers.

In 4.x they only allow access from the actual hostname.

No way!, you have to add the username and host where it's allowed to connect to the server. e. if you're connecting from 172.x.x.x with the user root you have to add root@172.x.x.x with their permissions.

You could use the Mysqlcc to do it.

    Best regards
