Question Unanswered: MS Access 2002 undefined function Left$

    Hi!

I have a software running under MS Access. Recently it had been converted from Access97 to Access2002. Everything is OK with the exception that I got an "undefined function" error when I try to run a query with the built-in function Left$() or Left(). I even got the problem when I tried to use Access 2000 format instead which is more than strange as another copy of the software is running OK under Access 2000. During the conversion no error was reported. The tables of the program are MS Access as well. There are two separate Access files: one with the front-end and another one with the tables. The tables are linked into the front-end file.

    Smile Missing References

You do not have your References set correctly. This is a common problem when migrating existing databases across versions of Access. Open a module in Design mode and select Tools - References. You need to have the following two references selected and available:

    Visual Basic for Applications
    Microsoft Access 9.0 Object Library

These contain the common "built-in" functions like Left$(), Right$(), etc.

    Hope this helps! Good Luck
