    Unanswered: hard disk requirements

    Hi,

i have this installation requirements saying that i need 4 disks,

    1 for data files
    1 for index files
    1 for roll back segments
    1 for table space.

why 4 disks? and why are these files separated?

It is not a requirement, you may install all objects on the same disk.

The performances will be better with a several disks to monitor reads and writes contentions.

in that case, separating all of them is the most preferd setup?

what the difference between teh data files, index files, rollback segments and the tablespace? is there a good source of documentation for this?

    Thanks

    Oh boy.
Buy a book. Oracle 9i The Complete Reference is a good synopsis of almost anything done in Oracle. It is worth the $40-$50 USD.

    Online you can try:
    http://tahiti.oracle.com/pls/db92/db92.homepage

    http://otn.oracle.com/index.html

I am assuming you would not have access to Metalink.

Of course Oracle Documentation that i s free to downLOad on Oracle.com.

and a lot oftutorials on a lot of website or in good books.

    Tablespace is an
allocation of space (on one or more files) in the database that can contain persistent schema objects.

Data and Index are stored in Tablespaces.

RollBack segmenst are called UNdo Tablespaces in 9i release and are used to undo the las changes in case of problem (commit or rollback)
