    Web accessible database

I am a beginner with databases. I have done some access database programming. Now I am looking to setup a robust web accessible database. What is the best way to get started on this? Are there any good packages out there?
Ideally I want it to be scalable so I won't hit problems if the database gets very large.
Can anyone show me how to get started on finding good resources?
    Thanks

MySQL has lots of documentation for doing web with Perl, Java, ASP, PHP, etc. And now with InnoDb, it supports transactions (but you can rely on MyISAM tables to have *extremely* fast queries). And it can handle very large volume (see genome project!). And it's supported on a zillion platforms/OS . And it's so cheap!

    Hope this helps.
