Unanswered: Performance impact for activating the timed_statistics

    Hello,

I'm evaluating tools for monitoring my db performance, but this software requires to activate the timed_statistics instance parameter.

    I'm using a SUN Sparc V880, with 6 procs., 12GB RAM, Solaris 8, Oracle8i 8.1.7.4, with 4 instances.

Since the db is in production now with a large number of users, I'm affraid that if I set this to "TRUE" then the whole system performance get down.

I have the past experience in Oracle 7.3 when I used the parameter and saw a big impact in performance, but maybe in Ora 8i and later, it's different.

Please, share your experience with this issue.

    Thank you.

I have noticed little impact in setting this on on production systems, and anyway the potential benefits will probably far outweight the small overhead (in that it will help you tune your database).

    Hello Alan,
    Thank you, OK.
Well, I'll try to activate the parameter.
What platform, your DBs are? HPUX,AIX,Solaris,Win2K,Linux,other?

    Thank you.
