    Unanswered: dbstart problem. Help please!!!!

    Hi,

I just installed oracle 9.0.1 in red hat 7.2 and I can't start the database, this is what it shows when I execute dbstart:

ORA-00205: error in identifying controlfile, check alert log for more info

I already search in other forums about this error and the control files specified in initorcl.ora (orcl is my SID) dont exists, so I proceed to create them as follows:

CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "DEFAULT" NORESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
    MAXLOGFILES 32
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXDATAFILES 32
    MAXINSTANCES 16
    MAXLOGHISTORY 1815
    LOGFILE
    GROUP 1 '/home/oracle/product/9.0.1/oradata/REDO03.LOG' SIZE 1M,
    GROUP 2 '/home/oracle/product/9.0.1/oradata/REDO02.LOG' SIZE 1M,
    GROUP 3 '/home/oracle/product/9.0.1/oradata/REDO01.LOG' SIZE 1M
    ;

    But this is what happens:

    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-01565: error in identifying file '?/dbs/dbs1@.dbf'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Additional information: 3

Does anybody knows what can I do? PLEASE!!!!!

did you create a database at installation time?

Since you mention ORCL I assume you created the DB. Did you use the Database ASsistant or did you create it at command-line?

Please post the contents of you init.ora file.

    Hi Duck,

    I'd already fixed the problem.

For some reason the file /etc/host.conf didn't have the IP address nor the server name, I fixed and reinstall Oracle and everything worked great.

    Thanx anyway.
