    Unanswered: phpmyadmin create table errors

    I get an error when I use PHPmyadmin to create a table. Here it is:
    Error

    SQL-query :

    CREATE TABLE `suggestions` (

    `submitted_by` VARCHAR( 20 ) NOT NULL ,
    `suggestion_type` VARCHAR( 20 ) NOT NULL ,
    `suggestion` BLOB( 1000 ) NOT NULL
    )

    What is wrong here?
    Thanks,
    nathan

    Hi

    Any particular reason why the TABLE and COLUMN names are enclosed in back-ticks? or is that CREATE TABLE statement an output of PHPmyadmin?

    Did you try from the mysql CLI?

    regards

    ps: any clues in the mysql logs?

    I am not sure why the little ticks are there. I copied from phpmyadmin. I cleared the error log because it was such a mess, so I don't have it. I am just curious as to why it is so hard to create tables using phpmyadmin, and why the errors are so non-specific and cryptic. I am also having a problem getting a date to display properly. I have added a field called "date" with a "date" as the type of field. When I view the table in phpmyadmin, all that is in the date field is "0000-00-00". I have it set as "fulltext" in the action column of the phpmyadmin window. What gives? I sure do miss using access databases with asp!
    Thanks for your help,
    nat

    You don't specify the size of a BLOB... If you know you need a smaller datatype, look at TINYBLOB, etc...

    CREATE TABLE `suggestions` (

    `submitted_by` VARCHAR( 20 ) NOT NULL ,
    `suggestion_type` VARCHAR( 20 ) NOT NULL ,
    `suggestion` BLOB NOT NULL
    )
