    Unanswered: ORA-00470 version 8.0.5.0.0 on win nt 4

    Hi,

    I need assistance resolving this issue.

    The trace files are showing this message:

    ++
    error 470 detected in background process
    ++

    Except for the ARCH trace file, which shows:

    ++
    ARCH: Archival stopped, error occurred. Will continue retrying
    ARCH:
    ORA-00470: LGWR process terminated with error
    ++

    The alert log shows:

    ++
    ARCH: Archival stopped, error occurred. Will continue retrying
    ARCH:
    ORA-00470: LGWR process terminated with error
    ++

    I tried opening the db and this was appended to the alert log:

    ++Thu Aug 07 22:18:11 2003

    Issue solved

    It's an Oracle bug.

    The problem is that if MAXLOGHISTORY is 65535 (default value of CREATE DATABASE), then when log sequence number reaches 65535, LGWR dies. This problem was fixed in 8.0.6 and later databases.

    A proposed solution was to set the init.ora parameter
    "control_file_record_keep_time = 0"
    and then restart.

    I did this but nothing happened.

    Another method to correct this would be to create a backup controlfile (text version), edit it to change the value of MAXLOGHISTORY from 65535 to 5000 or even less and then use that file to recreate the controlfile.

    This one worked fine.

    Regards.
