Post Unanswered: Bad Container Path error

    Hi,

I am having a problem in creating a DMS database on a Windows 2000 machine's D: drive. This D drive is located on an external disk connected through FireWire. This external drive was added to create more disk space on the system.
Now, when I'm giving the following command-

    CREATE DATABASE TESTDB ON D:
    ALIAS testdb
    USING CODESET IBM-1252
    TERRITORY US
    COLLATE USING SYSTEM
    USER TABLESPACE MANAGED BY DATABASE
    USING (FILE 'D:\DB2Data\User.db' 128000)
    EXTENTSIZE 16 PREFETCHSIZE 16 OVERHEAD 14.06 TRANSFERRATE 0.33
    CATALOG TABLESPACE MANAGED BY DATABASE
    USING (FILE 'D:\DB2Data\Sys_Cat.db' 128000)
    EXTENTSIZE 8 PREFETCHSIZE 8 OVERHEAD 14.06 TRANSFERRATE 0.33
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE MANAGED BY DATABASE
    USING (FILE 'D:\DB2Data\Sys_Temp.db' 128000)
    EXTENTSIZE 32 PREFETCHSIZE 32 OVERHEAD 14.06 TRANSFERRATE 0.33;

This command is failing , giving the error-
    SQL0298N Bad Container Path SQLState=428B2

I tried changing the container sizes from 128000 to 6400, 12800, even 1280. But still got the same error.
The size of D: drive is 189 GB.

Same error is coming when following the Create database steps through wizard in Control Center.
It takes the Container paths for all three tablespaces but on clicking Finish, it results in the SQL0298N Bad Container Path SQLState=428B2 error .

I checked all the points that were given in help for this error. Nothing seems to be happening in this case.
Only thing I can think of is- this drive being added externally.

Interesting thing is that I could create an SMS database on it ( while using the same container paths) and I'm currently working on it.

Please help if you have any idea about the cause of this error.

    Thanks,
    -Preeti

I'm sure you have the directory db2data under d drive

External Disk ? Does it mean it is a network drive ?

Any info in db2diag.log file or notify log file ?

    Cheers

    Re: Bad Container Path error

Thanks Sathyaram. This was exactly my problem.
I was able to create the database after I marked the checkbox of "Allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching" in the properties window of D drive.
    Your help saved my days.
