Unanswered: importing oracle DB into DB2

    Hi,

How can I import a oracle database into DB2?. Can a oracle dump file be used for this?. I'd appreciate any help in this.

    Thanks

    importing oracle DB into DB2

    Forgot to mention the versions...

The database is in Oracle 8i and I am trying to import it into DB2 8.0.

    Thanks!

No I don't think you can use Oracle export files to move data to DB2 - they are in a proprietary format.

If you have IBM integration tools installed (such as DataJoiner or Relational Connect) and have access to both platforms then I think you can create a nicknames for Oracle tables and access them as if they were db2's tables.

If that's not an option you could write a simple application (ODBC, JDBC) to read one database and write data into another.

Finally, you can always turn Oracle spool on and dump tables to text files, which you then load into db2.

    Migration Toolkit is another option
