Unanswered: unique nummers as primary key

I'm creating a database where a new client in the library gets a unique number, chosen of a list of numbers that can be used. Only these numbers can be used. When a number has been assigned, it can't be used anymore.

How can I get this in my database ? (VBA, macro ...?). If necessary I can give more info to get help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Why not using AutoNumber?

Anyway, if you have certain numbers to assign, store them in a special table, and mark them as assigned when you used them. You can even implement this mechanism in a multi-user environment, if you take the user into consideration.
