    Unanswered: database backup(Urgent)

    hai

my database size is 48GB. it is Oracle8i on win 2000. it is 24x7 database. my problem is i need to take the backups.
please give me a backup stratergy.
If i take logical backup it needs 20GB space in the disk. I dont not have that much space in my disk. So can i take logical backups directly on to the tapes(40GB capacity).
If possible pls tell me how to take logical backups on to the tapes directly. i want to take daily logical backups.
Will RMAN solve this problem? If possible how to take directly to the tapes.

    its urgent. please respond.

    RMAN will solve your problem.

RMAN can backup everything to tape.
A good book on this is: RMAN Backup & Recovery from Oracle Press
It goes over in detail what you need and how to do it.

I didn't know anything about RMAN. I bought the book and presto! Now I am backing stuff up and know what the heck I am doing.
