    Try this:

Set up an ODBC System DSN on your machine, we'll call it NT05. Test it to be sure it can connect successfully.

Add a new linked server, and select the Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC Drivers as the Provider name.

    Product Name: MERANT 3.60 32-Bit Progress SQL92 v9.1D
    Data Source: NT05
    Provider String:
    Location:
    Catalog: TEST

On the Security tab, select the "Be made using this security context:" option.
    Remote Login: USER
    With password: UserPW
    -bpd
