    Unanswered: Oracle 9i

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a simple validation using oracle 9i developer. I have created a product field in my database which has been defined by

    aircraft_cd varchar2(6) NN

What would be a way of validating this field using a WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM so that the first 2 characters had to be letters and the next 4 characters numbers? I'm not sure whether a simple format mask could be used or whether the string needs to be split and analysed seperately using the substr() and length() functions.

In Forms, a format mask of AA9999 will do what you require.
