Angry Unanswered: Space used data confusion

    Space used data shown inconsistency

    Hi,

Following is the data I found after running 'dbcc updateusage' on a database.

ran command 'sp_spaceused' and found the following data:

    database_size: 5001.00 MB
    un_allocated_space: 2606.54 MB

    Reserved: 2450904 KB
    Data: 2117664 KB
    Index Size: 472 KB
    Unused: 332768 KB

On Enterprise manager for the database properties:
    Size: 5001.00 MB
    Space Available: 2607.17 MB

Why the space available is not equal to the unused? Am I trying to calculate in a wrong way? How do I get the space available shown in EM
from any command like 'sp_spaceused' ?

    Thanks for any help.

    Vinnie

Sometimes the EM shows an incorrect count because statistics need to be updated.

Does this mean the sp_spaceused display is correct after I run
'dbcc updateusage' command. Can I depend upon the 'unused MB' to say that figure is correct?

    Thanks for info.

Someone also can tell me what command I can use to get the data file or logfile used space? I can get total size of a data by using command sp_helpfile but I also want to get 'unused space'.

Again thanks for any one's help.

sp_spaceused will tell you the unused space of the data file, dbcc sqlperf('logspace') will tell you the unused space of the log file.
