    Unanswered: bcp error

I have the following command line

    'bcp mydb..tblmytable in c:\mytextfile.txt -f "c:\myFormatFile.fmt"
    -Sservername -Usa -Pxxx'

when i run it from query analyser i get the following error :

    CTLIB Message: - L6/O8/S5/N3/5/0:
ct_connect(): directory service layer: internal directory control layer error: Requested server name not found.
    Establishing connection failed.

when i do the same as above but use BULK INSERT it works fine

can anyone tell me how i can get the bcp line working as i'd rather use this than BULK INSERT

    many thanks

You don't happen to have a Sybase client installed on this machine? Try using the full path to call BCP:

    C:\Program files\Microsoft......\bcp mydb..tblmytable in c:\mytextfile.txt -f "c:\myFormatFile.fmt" -Sservername -Usa -Pxxx'

BCP will use the first protocol defined in Client Network Utility of the client. Can you put TCP/IP as the default protocol? Also, if this fails, try to set up the alias in the same client utility applet for TCP/IP connection.
