Question Unanswered: Deleting records from a table with logging to transaction log

    Hi,

I need to delete a lot of data (~ 2 million rows from a table)
and do not want to log it to the transaction log
Is there a no logging option when running the delete transaction

    Thanks,
    Dave

Re: Deleting records from a table with logging to transaction log

    Unfortunately, there is none.

A workaround, which may be appropiate for you or not,
is to create a view which selects the rows to keep. That
is, every row but those to be deleted. Then bcp out,
drop triggers and indexes and bcp in. This can be good
only if the cost of the two bcp plus the re-creation of
indexes is cheaper than the delete.

    Regards,
