    Unanswered: Query Analyzer for DB2

Is there a Query Analyzer for DB2? MS SQLServer has a very nice
analyzer that breaks down a query and shows how long each part
is taking and helps you optimize it. I have located, installed and
fought with DB2 Personal Edition, DB2 Enterprise Edition,
DB2 Warehouse Manager, and the DB2 Perforance Expert, but have
had no luck finding a tool like this. I know it exists as I have seen
documentation for a DB2 Query Analyzer, but no information
on what its bundled with or how to activate/install it. Any help
    would be appreciated.

You can access it from the control centre ...

Follow this link for a tutorial on visual explain ...

This tutorial is for version 8, but it is pretty much the same in earlier versions also

Are you sure thats not just in version 8? I see
no Visual Explain in any of the menus of the
Control Center. Is it called something else?

    I'm extremely sorry ... I meant command centre ...

In command centre type in your query and one of the pull down menus will be 'Generate Access Plan' or click on the generate access plan icon (attached image)

tools in command center that will help you

In use Control Center quite a bit its easy and feature rich similar to Enterprise Manager toolset for SQL Server but a bit more crude and quaint. Here are some most useful tools in Control Center:

Script Center- similar to Query analyzer for running and creating sql scripts and commands (called Development Center in V8 of DB2 UDB)

Command Center- can run various DBA functions

Journal- a job scheduling batch facility for automating common DB2 DBA
tasks- I run daily tasks using this tool.

Control Center- main console can run commands and call forth other DB2 tools

Stored Procedure Builder- great for creating and modifying stored procedures and code

First thing first.... it is control center and not command center

You can access visual explain primarily from command editor...

From control center you can do that as well.... but in this scenario you open a command editor from control center and then get the plan....

I would use command editor for access plans ... it is much easier to use than the explain plan in control center ...

When the thread was first created in 2003, DB2 V7 was still quiet popular ... In that version, Command editior was called Command Center
