Unanswered: Oracle 8 ODBC extremely slow ! Oracle 9 OK.
Just wondering if anyone has any comments regarding the speed of the Oracle 8 ODBC drivers (188.8.131.52.0b, 184.108.40.206.0) as compared to the Oracle 9 ODBC driver (220.127.116.11.0)
I have both the Oracle 8 and 9 clients installed, and have tested both connecting to both an Oracle 8 and 9 database (both running under Linux), so it's not a server side or networking issue.
The Oracle 8 ODBC driver is slow to the point of being unusable.
eg. One of my tests using Oracle 9 (or the MS Oracle ODBC driver or even using Access or PostgreSQL) completes in about 20-30 seconds.
Using Oracle 8 takes around 5 minutes !
I've put some logging around the actual ODBC calls, and they are just all slower. eg. a fetch in Oracle 9 will take 50 ms, in Oracle 8 200ms.
These's no errors etc, I've turned tracing on and the log files look the same.
I've run out of ideas. Any comments ?
(Client software is running on Windows 2000 professional, but I've also
tried it on NT sp5.)
