Question Unanswered: MS Access - Table events

Hi - first post so be kind!

I have an Access dbs that is being written to via an ODBC application. The database contains a single table.

Is it possible to detect when a new record has been added to the table in order to add additional information to that record?

I've been looking at the BeforeInsert event, but getting a little lost!

Thanks in advance for any assistance

The DB itself has no user interface - it contains just a table that is being updated by a remote application via an ODBC link.

I want to detect when a new record is added to that table, then insert additional information to that a field in that record from another table in a different DB. (Told u I was confused! :-})

I have an Access DBs that contains a single table and nothing else (no forms etc.). This table is being updated via an ODBC link, so the Access database is not actually "open".

The table consists of three fields eg.:

    Date /Time: 04/09/2003 11:00:00

    Weight: 25.23

    UsrDbl1:

The UsrDbl1 field is not used at the moment.

What I want to be able to do :

When a new recorded gets added, retrieve a value from another Access DB and insert that value in the UsrDbl1 field of the new record.

Is this possible with a bit of VBA?

Question Re: MS Access - Table events

Sorry but still can't understand what you want to do. You want to update a field in the same table after you have updated another or you want to receive a message that will inform you that this field was updated?
    You work in a network?

I have read your problem more carefull. I think it could be more convinient to link the two databases and create relations between the two tables.

Firstly, thanks for spending the time thinking about this problem!

Yes I am on a network, but the fact that it's 2 seperate databases is not really the issue (the two tables could be in the same dbs).

Essentially, what I need is an event that is triggered by a new record being added to a table.

As far as I know... Access tables do not have "Events". Only access
    forms and reports do.

I assume you don't have programmer rights to
the app that is sending the original data to the table, and that is the reason you can't have the other app populate the last column???
