Unanswered: Deleting a lot of records from a table

I need to delete about 3 million records from a table from a table that has about 4 million records.

I have a maintainence window of about 30-45 mins, maybe more.
Can i disable logging on a sybase database, delete the records. Renable logging and backup the database.

In oracle you can turn the logging on and off.
Can the same be done in sybase

    Thanks in advance,

How about doing a "select into" for the 1M records you want to keep into a new table, dropping the original table, and then renaming the new table? "select into" operations aren't logged.
