First of all, I'm a newbie in Solaris environment.
Problem: Want to install a package, e.g., everybuddy messenger.
What happened: After untarring the downloaded file,
CD everybuddy-0.4.3
then
./configure
What I got:
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install... ./install-sh -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for working aclocal... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... missing
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

Now, I tried to install gcc-3.3.1
CD gcc
and then
./configure
results:
./configure
creating cache ./config.cache
checking LIBRARY_PATH variable... ok
checking GCC_EXEC_PREFIX variable... ok
checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking target system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking build system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

Now let me know first of all :
1) Was my approach right?
2) How to overcome this gcc stuff.
3) Can you please write down the steps to install a package in solaris 8.0?
4) How to setup environmental variables/path?
5) All in all how to achieve my final goal of installing everybuddy messenger?

Let me know, if I have provided useful information about my problem.
Thanks you all in advance.

Regards
Pardeep
