I hope I don't make a bunch of you laugh with this question, but I am a total newbie with server-side database apps. I'm building a VB6 front end that will likely connect to MySQL database (MyODBC and ADO). Everyone talks about installing the database on a seperate server, specifically for the db and nothing else.
Why is this so important, considering the speed and storage capacity of a modern server? I don't expect my database to be very large, nor do I expect more than a few transactions a minute.
Thanks to all who help! I'm giving myself one month to not be a newbie anymore!
