This post is an effort to find out what other Form developers are doing to implement multi-byte character languages, such as Chinese. Since Oracle has said that all versions of forms (except 10g) do not support NVARCHAR2, how are we supposed to represent muti-byte characters? NVARCHAR2 was created to solve the problem of developers not knowing how many bytes to allocate for each character, since some languages use more than one byte per character.

Are form developers using VARCHAR2 and over-allocating the maximum size to make sure the variable can hold all of the possible characters? Not very graceful.

Thanks for any input.
