    Question Unanswered: How do I alter the length of a field of type varchar in DB2?

    Could someone please supply me with
    the syntax to alter the data length in a field in DB2

    You can change the length of a VARCHAR column, but no other data types. You would use the ALTER TABLE. This is described in the SQL Manual, Volume 2 (version 7 has only one volume). Links to downloadable manuals is in the "Useful DB2 Stuff" thread above.

    If not a VARCHAR column, you would have to export the data, drop the table, recreate the table, and then load/import the data.
