Question Unanswered: File upload - must be on db2 server?

    Hi,

We want to upload some files up into db2 tables. This will be a regular scheduled job. However, I have been told that the files to be uploaded must reside on the same server as where the db2 database is situated. Is this true? This is using the LOAD command. Is there any command that we could call on server A to upload into the db2 tables on server B?
Could this be done using IMPORT?

Re: File upload - must be on db2 server?

Both IMPORT and LOAD can do ....

For IMPORT command, the file should be accessible from where the command is issued ...

    For LOAD:
LOAD FROM <filename> looks for the file on the server
LOAD CLIENT FROM <filename> looks for the file on the client, ie, the file should be accessible at the client ...

But, I'll prefer doing either LOAD/IMPORT from the server ... This way you are going to eliminate the overhead of transferring the data over the network thereby making your Loading job short ...

CHeck the Command Reference manual for details on the LOAD and IMPORT commands:

From the Version 8 manual for the LOAD:

"Data residing on the server may be in the form of a file, tape, or named pipe. Data residing on a remotely connected client may be in the form of a fully qualified file or named pipe."

"This file, pipe, or device must reside on the node where the database
resides, unless the CLIENT option is specified."

"Loading data that resides on a remotely connected client is not
    supported under the following conditions:

    - The database that the client is connected to is in a DB2 Enterprise - Extended Edition environment.
    - The database that the client is connected to is cataloged against an already cataloged database."
