    Re: what is rdbms?

Sorry did not finish my text.

RDBMS = Relational Database Management System
It's the complete set of software to run a relational database like Oracle and Microsoft SQLServer.
Relational database try to avoid redundancy by storing data in different containers (called tables) that have referential keys between the containers. So for example my name and adressess are stored in a raltional database, i would have one table for my surname, lastname, data of birth etc and one table for my adressess (homeaddress, workaddress, postal address and so on). Between those to tables there is a relation (a referental key called Foreign key) to indicate per address what person it belongs to.

Hope i've made some light in the darkness. Please get more info about relational databases before using them, to avoid deception and trouble.

    I'll humour you:

    relational database management system/software

you couldn't just Google that to find out?
Goto google and you'll find plenty of different RDBMS out there.

for more info regarding Oracle dbms (this IS an Oracle forum right?)

    Hi,

It's probably far too early at this stage to be confusing you with this, but what the heck - why not :-)

There are some very knowledgable chaps who have been writing for a long time about the TRDBMS. The Truly Relational Database Management System. They have spent a lot of time with Codd, who is generally considered to be the father of today's DBMS's and have also written numerous papers/books about what they think the future should hold for us all.

    You'll find them on www.dbdebunk.com

They believe in knowledge, knowledge of the foundations on which DBMS's were supposed to have been built. Highly recommended - but hard reading!
