Unanswered: Ora-27100: Shared Memory realm already exists

I'm carrying out Oracle server restore.

    1. I installed Oracle database software without creating a starter database.
    2. I used ORADIM utility to create and start the Oracle service:
ORADIM -NEW -SID intools -INTPWD intoolsmgr -STARTMODE auto -PFILE e:\apps\orant\ora81\database\initintools.ora
    3. I set the Oracle SID: SET ORACLE_SID=INTOOLS

    4. I logged on to Server Manager, connected as INTERNAL, and tried running STARTUP but I received the following error:

ORA-27100: SHARED MEMORY REALM ALREADY EXISTS

    I need help!

probably means oracle is already up and running. Try shutting it down first then doing a startup.

The Oracle processes associated with the instance are still running.
Stop them - not sure on windows but on Unix they are ora_SMON_SID.

If you can bounce the box.

    hi,

Did you get the message that the instance was created succesfully ?
Did you create a database after the creation of the instance? If you only did what you wrote you only created the instance and you should issue the startup nomount command.
Otherwise, if you created the database, most probably some parameters in the init.ora can not be processed therefor not allocating the memory for the SGA, which will not be initialised.

    Hope this helps.
