Question Unanswered: SQL1400N - Authentication error.

    Hi ,

Some of my users are facing the following error. "SQL1400N Authentication is not supported".

This error happens very occasionally. Not frequently.

    My DB2 (V6.1 FP10), running on AIX 4.3.
We know V6.1 is outdated, but we are getting special support from IBM.

This is our dbm cfg setting:
    Database manager authentication(AUTHENTICATION) = SERVER_ENCRYPT
Cataloging allowed without authority(CATALOG_NOAUTH) = NO
Trust all clients (TRUST_ALLCLNTS) = YES
Trusted client authentication (TRUST_CLNTAUTH) = CLIENT

I would greatly appreciate your help on this. Thank you.

    Regards
    Prakash

On the client getting the errors ... are the cfg different, than the one that are working, regarding authentification? (on the client side?)

Yes. Only client side is facing proplem. There is no cfg defined in client side. They are using siebel application & they have only client configuration assistant.

By client configuration assitant do you mean db2cca ?

If so, from the first screen click on the botton <CLient Settings...> then on then on the administration tab and you will see the parameter for authentification ... maybe it is not the right one e.i. not SERVER_ENCRYPT ?

    Hi Dany,

In client setting, the value is correct.

Problem is, users are facing problem sometimes(if they connect 10 times, it shows this error 1 time).

How is your authentication done on the AIX server (in relation to the clients) ? Are you using NIS ? (I had similar problems in the past with an NIS implementation on AIX <-> NT ...

Intermitant problems are not easy ... and youe were saying it happens about 1 time out of 10 and only on a few client ?

Is the fixpack level the same on all clients?

and the error message is quite vague ...

    db2 ? SQL1400N

    SQL1400N Authentication is not supported.

Explanation: The authentication type supplied is not one of the
    supported types.

The command can not be processed.

User Response: The user should reissue the command with a valid
    parameter value.

See Application Development Guide for a list of supported
    authentication types.
