    Cool Unanswered: How do i migrate db to a new instance name?

    Hello!

    I'm new here, so this is my first question.
    I have one instance/db called "test" and i create an new instance with another name "test01" and i make a cold backup of "test" and i want all of this backup from "test" to work with the new instance "test01".

    I have setup filespaces,oratab,initora.test01 to fit with the new instance.
    From test instance i have done.

    alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    to get an restore script.
    But when i do this in the new instance "test01" i get errors.

    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
    ORA-01161: database name TEST in file header does not match given name of TEST01
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oracle/dbs/oradata/test01/system01.dbf'

    Does any now how to solve this, please!

    Thank you!

    Regards Freand

    Hi,

    just take a look at the created controlfile with the restore script and edit it at your needs. Since it is the backup of the controlfile for the TEST, it will reference theis database, while it should reference TEST01. Just edit it.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi,

    Do a full export of the TEST database and then import it into the TEST01 database.

    expFULL.par file:

    full=y
    consistent=y
    buffer=10485760
    direct=y
    log=./expfull.log
    file=./expfull.dmp
    indexes=y
    rows=y

    Then

    $ exp system/password pfile=expFULL.par

    impFULL.par file:

    full=y
    ignore=n
    file=/path/expfull.dmp
    indexes=y
    log=impFULL.log
    grants=y
    buffer=10485760
    commit=y

    then

    $ imp system/password parfile=impFULL.par

    Should do it.

    Rgs,
    Breen.
