    Unanswered: Corrupt data - cannot compact

    Using MS Access 2000

    Seperate front-ends and back-ends
    =======================

    A user complained of a missing job entered into the back-end

    When the job was originally created, it seemed to be inserted correctly

    However, when they subsequently tried to edit that job it was not being found in the jobs table...

    If I filter the jobs table with the code in question, a row is returned, although the data held in it looks corrupt.

    Furthermore, I cannot delete this row and receive the following error;

    "The search key was not found in any record"

    If I try and compact and repair the database, compact and repair does not seem to complete - the progress bar stops about half way, although the tables do re-appear and I can exit the BE

    Anyone have any suggestions as to how best to rectify this?

    I do not want to progressively have more problems?

    (The jobs table has about 5911 records)

    Perhaps you can copy all the content form the corrupt DB to a new one. Sometimes that works when Compact & Repair won't

    "The search key was not found in any record" means that you most likely have a corrupted index on the table. You can try to perform an ODBC repair by creating a DSN and using that repair facility ...

    Corrupt data - cannot compact

    The only time i had this

    was I had a Corrupt MEMO feild

    and the only way i found it was veiwing the table in tableview
    and scrolling down each record where i could see the memo feild

    once it try to view that memo feild it would give me errors
    but if i view that record and not show the memo feild it be o.k

    so I deleted that 1 record
    bye not viewing that memo feild.

    and the Compact/repair working again

    yes it take a few days to find it

    hope this help.
