    Unanswered: Unable to truncate log file

    Hi

    This one maybe just a simple oversight but any help would be apperciated:

    I've been attempting to reduce the side of the log file on one of my databases by doing this:

    BACKUP LOG mydb WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY;

    DBCC SHRINKFILE (mydb_log,1);

    The first transaction is going through fine. But the second transaction (DBCC SHRINKFILE) is returning the error message:

    Server: Msg 8985, level 16, state 1, line 1
    Could not locate file 'mydb_log' in sysfile.

    now I checked the log file name and it seems correct so I can't understand what I'm doing wrong.

    So err Please help, Thanks Ed

    The log file name should be the same as the NAME in sysfiles. Check the name with sysfiles and make sure it's the same.
