    Unanswered: Oracle nextval

    Does anyone have experience with doing inserts to oracle linked tables from a standard Access query that allows for the nextval sequence property to be updated?

    Simple oracle sql looks like this:
    insert into efc_version
    values(efc_id_sequence.nextval, 1000, 1, 'TEST', 'T', NULL);

    But, how do you get access to fire off the nextval?

    (I can do this in code but really hope there's a way around this)

    The nextval should be a trigger on the Oracle DB table, I think?

    So when you fire your insert you don't try to insert the nextval number, just the other fields, and Oracle takes care of the rest. Have you tried that?

    Yes, can do that but need the dba's to do it for me as this is not standard for our environment.

    Then you are going to have to do the coding I think. I'm used to being the Oracle DBA and developer. But I usually stick with ODBC. It might be possible via OLEDb, but I'm not familiar enough with it to know the in's and out's.
