Question Unanswered: Oracle 8i Support in 2004

Looking for a third-party support option for 8i database in 2004. Our firm needs a viable 8i database support solution for short-term development effort.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

What are you looking for when you say a 3rd party support option...
Oracle will discontinue "bug" fixes in Dec 2003, but support continues
    until 2006 ...

    Database Support Oracle 8i

    Hi Gregg,

We're a software firm that developed our application for SQL and Oracle databases. We've certified our application for Oracle 8i but other GUI restrictions limit our moving to certify on Oracle 9i. Our real development will be targeted for 10i and higher.

With that said, we're looking for a 3rd party vendor who will support the databases for our customers if they have issues. If you know of any vendors who will be supporting Oracle 8i databases in the event our customers need assistance, I'd love to get that info.

Also, you information regarding the 2006 support date was news to us. We had been hearing that Oracle was de-supporting 8i entirely after 12/31/03. Where could I find info that that date and what it really means from Oracle?

    Thanks for your help,

You can get Oracle desupport information from Oracle's Metalink
    ... Search for desupport 8.1.7 ....

I'm a consultant with PSAConsulting in South Carolina. I support/develop Oracle databases for clients in the area.
My clients are (like yours) currently on 8i because of 3rd
party software restrictions. I will be taking them to 9i in
    the near future.

I've been working with Oracle for 9 years and VAX Rdb prior
to that. I don't know, but I think our company might would
be interested in helping out if it were possible.
