    Unanswered: Archivelog Error

    Hello,

    I am gettig following error in alert log file

    Tue Oct 7 13:39:59 2003
    ARC0: Beginning to archive log# 3 seq# 17940
    ARC0: Error 19504 creating archivelog file '/apps/oracle/admin/DBA/arch/T0001S0000017940.ARC'
    ARC0: Archiving not possible: error count exceeded
    ARC0: Failed to archive log# 3 seq# 17940
    ARCH: Archival stopped, error occurred. Will continue retrying

    ORACLE Instance DBA - Archival Error

    What does it mean?

    It means it cannot create the file '/apps/oracle/admin/DBA/arch/T0001S0000017940.ARC' probably because that disk is full. Your backup should backup these ARCH files and then delete them to make way for new ones. Has your backup failed.

    Alan,

    Thanks for your reply.

    Yes you are write the backup was failing because of disk sapce problem. Then I deleted old files and resynched and then took backup. WHich corrected this problem too.

    Is this the best way to proceed ?
