    Question Unanswered: More Oracle Instances

I am trying to create number 7 and 8 oracle instance on my Oracle 9i database ( Sun Solaris 8). I have been told I can have as many instances running but I can't get past six. What system or database parameter must I look at and configure?

Check kernel parameters in /etc/system. Maybe you have to increase some value to be able to start more instances

max shared memory segment size (SHMMAX)
min shared memory segment size (SHMMIN)
    shared memory identifiers (SHMMNI)
max attached shm segments per process(SHMSEG)
    semaphore identifiers (SEMMNI)
    max semaphores per id (SEMMSL)
    semaphores in system (SEMMNS)
max operations per semop call (SEMOPM)
    semaphore maximum value (SEMVMX)
