    I'm using the following xp_cmdshell 'echo. > \\computername\dir\test\test.log'

now the prob is that the cmd does not like the \\computername part.... does ne one know how to overcome this problem?

    Thanks

It works just fine on our network. Check for permissions and correct folders.

    xp_cmdshell 'dir *.exe>\\Mssql\data\t_t.txt'

I don't think it's a \\computer part that barks at you. check the security context under which your xp_cmdshell goes into cmd.
