    Red face Unanswered: Ora-04020

When trying to update a table under Oracle8i, the following message appears:

ORA-04020 deadlock detected while trying to lock object stringstringstringstringstring

The error message guide lists the following:

Cause: While trying to lock a library object, a deadlock is detected.

    Action: Retry the operation later.

I've waited for several hours but the problem persisted. Anyone have idea ? Thanks.

It maybe that it's not the table, but another table ... ie,
ensure the triggers on the table are disabled (if that's what you
need) and the constraints are disabled (again if that's what you
    want to do)...

Here's a script to show you the locks in the database. Run it as
SYS. It spools to an output file ... Change the output filename
    to match your environment.

    Run it as: sql> @find_db_locks.sql

I am a bit confused by the rollback at the end of the select statement. Is there any reason for it, or is it just habit?
