Unhappy Unanswered: Read-only error when entering first record into form

Hello, I have a form that enters data into 2 linked tables (the Name field of the first table, and the Date and comment fields of the second).

*** Actual Database Available for Download Below ***

The main form (CARS Request Entry Form) has a subform in datasheet view.
The subform is based off of the query "CARS Data Entry Query".
The problem is that when you enter the first date for an employee (not first in that session, but first ever for that employee) it will pop-up with a "This property is read-only and can't be set error." When you click okay, the message goes away and the letter that you typed in the Date field is actually there, and you can continue typing as usual. As I mentioned, the error only occurs when entering the first ever record for an employee.

I've tried limiting the query that I base the subform off of, but that doesn't help (I know why)

I'm still willing to make minor design changes, but it is mostly already the way I want it to look. Thanks for any help you can give.

all hail you, o master of access, I will use the wisdom gained today for good... even though this is due tmr.

I still need a way I can keep my existing setup (with the queries and whatnot) and avoid the read-only warning msgbox.
