    Unanswered: How to have same DB open both all-access and read-only?

    Is there any way to assign passwords to particular databases so that they open in regular edit mode and read-only mode based on password? The database will be posted to a share site, so it has to do this for everyone, not just for Access on my computer. Basically, when user opens the DB, he/she chooses a username, types in password, and then the DB will open normally or read-only depending on that. I don't want to hide/lock the database object window because owners will still have to be able to create/edit objects. I just want everything to be read-only or not.

    Thanks!

    Go to Tools --> Security

    From there you should be able to set up what you are asking for.

    There is also a wizard to walk you through the set up.

    I did this before and it only did it when the file was opened on my computer. On other computers, it did not prompt for the password at all. It seems like doing that is maybe Access specific instead of database specific? Am I configuring it wrong somehow?

    Read this article for information on the security file.

    You must locate the workgroup information file with the database.

    I believe this should answer your question.
