    tnsping tns-alias, not tnsping ip-address and tns-alias shoulde be defined in your tnsnames.ora file

    hai thank for your reply.
    Actually my problem is my listener is not getting started. when iam trying to start the listener in the "lsnrctl" it is giving the below error:-

    Starting tnslsnr: please wait...

    System parameter file is D:\oracle\ora92\network\admin\listener.ora
    Log messages written to D:\oracle\ora92\network\log\listener.log
    Trace information written to D:\oracle\ora92\network\trace\listener.trc
    Listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=ipc)(PIPENAME=\\.\ pipe\EXTPROC0ipc
    )))
    Error listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=196.12.3 6.1)(PORT=
    1521)))
    TNS-12560: TNSrotocol adapter error
    TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error
    32-bit Windows Error: 50: Unknown error

    Listener failed to start. See the error message(s) above...

    I don't have much experience on window 2000 platform, but at first you might want to make sure listener.ora file is correct, I would use Oracle Network assistant to re-create that file. If there is still problem, you might want to set up the tracing and looka at the trace file form more clues.
